Hello! Did you know that data influences your daily decisions, often without you even noticing? From the ads you encounter online to how companies tailor their products, data quietly shapes many aspects of your life. Have you ever stopped to think about how much information is being gathered about you, and why it's crucial to be aware of it?

If this resonates with you, Shine Light on Data is the perfect event to explore further!

Excited? Let’s dive into this unique opportunity. Shine Light on Data is a first-time event, jointly organised by AEGEE and BEST, aimed at sparking curiosity about data and raising awareness of how it helps us make smarter decisions in our everyday lives.

This event will take place during a very special week in Eindhoven, the festival of light “GLOW”. Alongside the workshops there is also a social program with fun activities and to make new friendships in a city with a uniquely ‘glowing’ atmosphere.

=== What is Shine Light on Data ? ===

"Shine Light on Data" is a five-day event designed to explore how data shapes our everyday lives. Through a series of engaging workshops and interactive sessions, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how data impacts everything, from the content we see on social media to the decisions made by companies and governments. The event’s purpose is to raise awareness about the importance of data, not just in terms of what is being collected, but why it’s vital to recognize its role in our daily lives and the world around us. The event will focus on explaining the entire data cycle, covering how data is collected, analysed, and ultimately visualised. Participants will gain a broad overview of how data flows through these stages and understand how it drives innovation across various industries. Although the event will not involve hands-on coding, it will provide a clear and comprehensive understanding of the lifecycle of data. There will also be discussions on key issues such as data privacy, ethical considerations, and regulations like GDPR that influence how data is handled in modern society. No prior experience or knowledge in data or subjects related to it (e.g. business analysis or computer science) is expected. The aim is to make this topic accessible to all, encouraging anyone interested in learning how data can shape their future to join in and be part of this exciting journey of discovery.
